Never Summer is a company started in Colorado by brothers Tracey and Tim Canaday. They have been at it for some 15 years and make without a doubt some of the most durable boards in existance, using ptex sidewalls and 5 layers of fiberglass in the layup process. (Most companies use only two layers of fiberglass and abs sidewalls to save cost and make it easy to keep things light). They stand behind all of their boards with a full 3 year warranty.

Recently Jeff Baker and I had a chance to tour their 16000 square foot production facility in Denver where the boards are produced.
One of the things that sets Never Summer Apart is that they mill their own cores. Tracey actually has two computer controlled core milling machines to taper the core thickness for the appropriate flex. There are only a couple other core machines in all of North America.
he boards are assembled in a production line with with each step of the process handled by a different person. First the base and edges are set in metal cassette.
The boards work their way down the line, adding epoxy resin, layers of fiberglass, the woodcore, more epoxy, more fiberglass, high tech graphite and kevlar and finally the topsheet at different stations before they reach the press which compresses the materials together while heating them to cure the epoxy resin.
After the boards come out of the press, a finisher grinds off the excess epoxy that was squeezed out of the board during the pressing procedure.
Finally all of the boards are checked for quality both structurally and cosmetically before moving into the warehouse room. This is Tracey Canaday, with this years production- literally thousands of brand new, ready to ship Never Summer snowboards.
