Recommendations for skiing in Greece?

Hi!

I hope this topic is not too wrong for this forum.


We are exchange students living in Greece this year and spending also our Christmas here.

As we come from northern Europe, it would be nice to spend holidays in snow for a change.

At the moment we are in Athens and the weather is far from being snowy" here

So we thought of going to some skiing resort to spend Christmas there.




Can anyone recommend a skiing resort where there is plenty of snow, beautiful nature and accommodation? For a reasonable price?

We do not want a fancy hotel, we would prefer modest cosy cabin instead.

Or actually any kind of accommodation would be nice if it is cosy and reasonably priced.




We have searched information about Pelion and Parnassos, but it is kind of difficult, because we do not understand Greek so much.

But it seems to me, that in Pelion there is not much snow yet?

And we have also been in Arachova&Delfi recently and I assume that there is no snow either.

It would be best if the accommodation is in the skiing resort.

For example I understand that there is some accommodation (80 beds) in Pelion ski resort, but I think that there is no snow yet.




So if anyone has good ideas where to spend snowy winter holidays in Greece, we are open to all opinions and discussions.

Unfortunately the weather is not the best for winter sports yet.You can see at the bottom of the frontpage <a href=http://www.snowreport.gr/" target="_blank">http://www.snowreport.gr/</a> the condition of each ski resort on the map ,and also a view from the camera.I don't know much about ski resorts in southern Greece as i live northern,however i think the best resort you can find near Athens is Parnassos.For the time being the snow is very limited but i think that in about 3 to 4 days thinks might change as we are expecting some snowfall at almost every ski resort in Greece.

I hope i helped you a little ,and somebody more experienced will help you more about accommodation......"

usually in Greece most of beds and accommodation are not so close to lift & slopes...if you want to ski in - ski out you have to pay enough....

one good option is in N.Greece in Vasilitsa ski resort where there is an accommodation near slopes....

but until now, not snow at all...
be in touch for the first snow and we will contact again...

So I don't hope for too much snow in Greece yet.




Today we bought 5-day Flexypass for trains in Balkan. (Greece, Turkey, FYROM, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia)

I thought maybe there is some snow in some of these countries

I have tried to read this forum and found out that it is possible to go to Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria by train and then from there on to Bansko. Good idea or not?

Not really. Not much snow there, either. But you must use those tickets.

By the way, is my assumption that you are Erasmus students correct?

you have no other choices than Romania and Bulgaria this period.

But the webpage says that the ski centre is open from 15dec to 15may.

And someone in this forum did already put up pics from this december from Bansko.

Or maybe I misunderstood. Nevertheless, his pics were very snowy indeed




The whole central- and northern Europe is drowning in snow and now we cannot get here enough to go skiing - hilarious




We're leaving Athens tonight and arriving Bansko tomorrow, so I hope there is something, at least.

I must also add that our level of mountain skiing is beginner, so even the smallest slope which has snow would be already okay for us. Maybe they can artificially produce snow there when it is cold enough? Because the weather prognoses are that it will be -2C tomorrow and -3C the day after. I hope the best. And yes indeed, we are Erasmus students
